I've spent nearly my entire career in Nashville, TN.
Leaving northern California to create a life in music here was the best decision I ever made, but the journey definitely started there.
For as long as I can remember, my sister and I went to sleep every night to the sound of our mother playing piano. Rachmaninoff, Ravel, Debussy, beautiful hymn arrangements... all that music is forever imprinted on my soul. I began piano lessons at 8 years old and continued all through high school. During this time of learning classical methods I secretly discovered pop music, spending countless hours hiding out with headphones soaking up all the amazing pop of the late 70's and 80's. It was all over when I played my first synthesizer in 7th grade... I had no doubt what I wanted to be doing for the rest of my life. That resolve was cemented with the introduction of MIDI and computer integration in the mid 80's. I was hooked, and it's been a non-stop journey of discovery ever since.
I work with many artists, writers, and producers all around town. The creative energy of this place is amazing. Not too long ago my good friends Michael Ochs, Jeff Cohen, and I had what some would consider an "opportunity." We wrote a great song and it ended up on a great record. Number 7 on the CD, check it out on the links page.
At one time I worked in and out of and maintained about 5 studios around town for friends and colleagues. When you have computer skills many of those types of jobs just land on you by default. I still work out of a few of those... but my pride and joy is my mobile rig.
MacBook Pro 2.4/4gb ram/500gb hd
Mbox2Pro w/ProTools LE 9, Digital Performer, Logic
Reason and more synths/VI's/plugins than should be listed here.
Plenty of drives and an amazing pair of Senheisser 650HD phones.
Akai LPK25 keyboard (so freakin' fun)
This is where I do any work that doesn't require me to be sitting in front of a large keyboard or monitors. Which, as far as I'm concerned, can be most of my work. I love nothing better than changing my surroundings on a regular basis. You'll find me in any number of coffee shops around town... I get more done in those environments than I do in most studios. All I do is pull 4 cables out of one backpack, plug in, and go.
Who do I work with most often? Glad you asked...
